This article presents a segment of a course completion research project, aiming to explore the intersections between necropolitics, decoloniality, and the educational profile of inmates at the Juazeiro Penal Complex (CPJ), based on data from the National Penitentiary Department (SENAPPEN) and reports from SISDEPEN collected in March 2024. Education is internationally recognized as a fundamental right for all human beings. The research adopts a qualitative approach, with some aspects of quantitative analysis. The quantitative approach involved a survey of secondary data, and the qualitative approach was conducted through exploratory research, characterized as a single embedded case study, grounded in critical criminology theories. It explores perceptions about the educational profile of inmates, the educational opportunities available, and the barriers faced in the CPJ. The results highlight low educational levels among inmates upon entering the prison system and low participation in educational programs, reflecting necropolitics through overcrowding, living conditions, and the lack of adequate access to basic services, including education, which perpetuate the social marginalization of inmates. This study recommends a multifaceted restructuring of prison policies based on human rights and the promotion of inclusive education as a pathway to reintegration, the promotion of social justice, and the fight against exclusion.
