This experience report aims to analyze the historical context of literacy programs aimed at young people, adults, and the elderly, as well as the impact of the Literacy and Family Program in the state of Goiás, Brazil. The research adopted a qualitative approach, using dialectics as a method of presentation and analysis, in addition to literature review and analysis of documents related to national and state literacy policies. The results indicate that Goiás recorded the highest reduction in illiteracy rates in Brazil among program beneficiaries, with a decrease of 32.2% from 2016 to 2023, according to Continuous PNAD. Considering the number of people literate through the program in the period from 2019 to 2023, the program contributed 17.89% to the reduction of illiteracy in Goiás. These results highlight the effectiveness of the program in promoting literacy and social inclusion Furthermore, the established goal for 2024 is to educate approximately 6,000 students, distributed across 600 new classes, aiming to halve functional illiteracy in the country. In this sense, the Literacy and Family Program shows potential to consolidate as a permanent educational policy, significantly contributing to the achievement of literacy and education goals outlined in national and state plans, and reinforcing the government's commitment to providing quality education for all.
