Abstract

Orthographic agreements are attempts to standardize the spelling of languages in the countries that ratify them. In languages spoken by people from different countries with disparate social, historical, and cultural contexts, such attempts represent a form of greater global political dimension. Thus, various orthographic agreements for the Portuguese language have been outlined, conceived, and implemented. In this sense, the current agreement has been in effect since the mid-2000s, and even in 2025 its rules are not mastered by all literate Brazilians. Therefore, as a dynamic work method, the debate genre was chosen as a product to be explored in relation to the New Orthographic Agreement. Thus, this experience report aims to discuss the methodology and the observed impact of the project, which was conceived for first-year students of technical and professional secondary education at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia – IFBA, Seabra campus. The writing of this report highlights the methodology employed and developed for this pedagogical work. In her dissertation, she employed a qualitative method to highlight the impacts of the proposed work. The observed results showed that the students had in-depth contact with the argumentation and discourse of the New Orthographic Agreement of the Portuguese language.
